Primary sources only: state statutes, administrative codes, inspector manuals, and official agency FAQs. Citation hierarchy is documented on each state hub.
Authorized stations
Official locators/PDFs (HDOT PMVI PDFs, MSHP HP81, MSP MSIS, NCDMV station search). Virginia does not publish a bulk public safety-station list — listings stay unverified until confirmed.
Maps never sets authorized=true alone.
Google Maps enrichment
We use gosom/google-maps-scraperoffline to enrich NAP, hours, ratings, coordinates, and photo URLs. Results are merged into static JSON; images are downloaded into public/images/ (no hotlinking).
Automated Maps access may conflict with Google Terms of Service. Treat the scraper as an internal enrichment tool; disclose usage here; prefer compliance review for production scale.
Open maps & imagery
- OpenStreetMap tiles (MapLibre/Leaflet) with attribution
- Mapillary for street-level context (license + attribution)
- Wikimedia Commons / Openverse for licensed editorial images
Forms database
SQLite (data/forms.db) stores contact, claim, issue, and reminder submissions only. It is never used to render directory pages.
