Texas inspection changes

Track dated changes that affect drivers: fees, cadence, exemptions, station-locator policy, and sticker rules. Until a legislative/admin change is cited, treat the official program page as authoritative.

Changelog

2026-10-01 — FindSafetyStations baseline

Published the initial Texas hub summarizing Texas Vehicle Safety Inspection Program (abolished for non-commercial vehicles) with citations (HB 3297 (88th Legislature), TxDMV RTB 005-24). No separate legislative change entry beyond that baseline yet.

What drivers should do: Confirm current rules on the official program page before registering or visiting a station.

How we add future entries

  • Cite the statute, regulation, bulletin, or agency notice URL
  • State the effective date
  • Explain the driver action (retest, fee change, locator change)
  • Link canonically to /states/texas/
