Louisiana vehicle safety inspection
No — periodic safety inspection is not currently required. Louisiana is ending the statewide personal-vehicle safety inspection sticker requirement. HB 1085 (2026) removes the requirement to display a safety inspection certificate for most personal, non-commercial vehicles effective Jan 1, 2027. From June 30, 2026 through Jan 1, 2027, officers may not cite solely for missing/failure to produce an inspection certificate, and Louisiana State Police reported ceasing sticker-only enforcement. Commercial vehicles and school buses can still require inspections. Some localities (e.g., New Orleans area programs) and Clean Air Act I/M parishes may retain separate requirements—verify locally and with LDEQ/OMV.
